Blog Post #4: Reflecting on the environmental geography of your meal or product

Image
In blog post #3 I discussed how the sugar mills primarily in China had a negative effect on the flora and fauna in the environment surrounding those mills. Primarily the pollution in the water such as the irrigation systems. It is also a matter of the amount of pollutants that are being dumped into bodies of water. the EPA  passed a law in the 1970s that prohibited the dumping of dangerous amounts of pollutants that could effect the human body into bodied of water (NEPIS). They also need to establish limitations for all industrial plants.  In my opinion though on a smaller scale solution could be just the creation of small local sugar companies. Especially in the united states since we usually import sugar from these mills in china maybe making our own sustainable businesses with environmentally safe processes to produce the sugar and put the large industries out of business is the way to go.  Some actions that can be taken at an individual level could be searching ...

Blog Post #2 : Introducing your meal

Image
In the morning I have never been known for having a large appetite. I usually just make myself coffee and that's it. But not just any coffee. I was first introduced to coffee in the fifth grade when the whole Starbucks trend began to mainstream. Ever since then I have played around with favorites and different flavors. Now being my 20 year old self I have come to realize I prefer more of an all plant based coffee in the morning. I start my mornings with my dark coffee roast with almond milk creamer and lavender syrup that I make myself.

Blog Post #3 : Enviormental Impacts of Your Meal or Product

In this blog post I will walk through the impacts that your meal, diet, or other products of consumption has on the enviorment by explaining some of the things in my personal life that effect the enviorment.   In my daily routine I start my morning off with coffee, usually with almond creamer and lavender syrup. But where do these ingridents to make this morning blend come from? Well to start all of the indridients I use are from local buisnesses which I tend to prefer as they give the most gauruntee of having authentic organic products. Such as the coffee blend itself, I purchase Colectivo coffee a Milwaukee area local coffee buisness. They have specific blends that are from different parts of the world based on their roast and acidity. I prefur to buy the Dark Sumutra Highlands blend, the blend is named after its orgin where the coffee was grown by "small-scale farmers in the Gayo Highlands of Aceh Provience, located on the northen tip of the Indoneasian island of Sumutra"(...

Blog Post 1 : Plastic Bag Waste

Image
One impact that was observed during the documentary Battle of the Bags  was how much the economy relies on the production of plastic bags. How many people it gives a job. I guess I never really thought about it. Which I guess is just one of those topics that always gets overlooked which is why there is such a lack of knowledge about plastic pollution. I myself carry a cotton reusable mesh tote bag whenever I go to the store so I don't need to use plastic bags. I realized a while ago what a waste they were but I never thought about the production and economical factors of the plastic bag.       Which that mesh tote bag that I talked about using is also another solution to the plastic bag issue; or any sort of cloth bag will do. In the documentary they talked about how it became a popular fad as celebrities started carrying cloth bags with the statement "I'm not a plastic bag" on a canvas cloth tote that was designed by a British designer Anya ...
